My parents tell me that I am three years old in this photo. My grandmother hauled me up and down Markham street in Manitowok, Wisconsin. I loved it.
And I still do.
A few years ago my parents sent me a scan of this photo, using it to explain my adulthood fascination of cargo bikes and the culture that surrounds them.
My grandmother is a pragmatic, early adopter; she did not let the conventions of travel dictate her. However, she did wear pearls when necessary. It would be great to be able to park that trike in my garage.

I love those old Schwinn trikes with the basket on the back
I absolutely adore this photo. Your grandmother was clearly amazing.
Super sweet picture! Love that over-sized rear view mirror.
Thanks for sharing this inspiring memory. I saw one of those for sale on Saturday at the Tacoma Bike Swap, same color even!
I would have bought that if it was not too expensive. Some people expect to sell for a high price when, for most people, save Dan Kauffman, this trike would be for whimsy only. I raced with Dan and he was on his trike. He is quite nimble and fast, considering.
My father read this and sent me an email, sharing more information on my grandmother. My grandmother chose not to drive a car but still wanted to be independent and head to the grocery store, or the hardware shop. This trike allowed her to do that.
Great picture, and a beautiful bike. Glad to see where your inspiration derived.
