This week, a DRT donation was made to The Oregon Food Bank in the amount of $600. Maryann Brunner, Partner Events Coordinator for the OFB, says that the money will be used to purchase over a thousand pounds of food.
In its inaugural year, DRT was a venue to demonstrate the awesome power of cargo bikes and the growing interest in being resilient against a disaster.
DRT also facilitated partnerships between bike shops, organizations, non-profits, and people. One of those partnerships was with The Oregon Food Bank. They were a staging site for Checkpoint CHUCKWAGON as well as the the DRT’s donation benefactor.
DRT organizers plan a continued partnership with OFB through future events. After witnessing the capacity of cargo bikes to do good, The OFB is working with TransportLand to design a volunteer cargo bike delivery model for Emergency Food Boxes.
Great ideas are being carried out in Portland by cargo bikes. Get involved. Contact TransportLand through comments, email (transportPDX@gmail.com), Facebook, or Twitter.
